11 January Off to FlyballWell, we are leaving in half an hour for Ohio. The cooler is packed, the meals are planned. And I hear there are sloppy joes and cookies waiting for us when we get there. *ugh*
My weight this morning was 174.4lbs. Terri's weight is 183.6lbs. Hopefully we'll be that when we return.
Go Two Lane Highway Flyball Team!
09 January Week 2: Weight loss versus FlyballWell, here we are at the start of week 2. I'm excited!
Week one went extremely well. I lost a total of 8.3 pounds, and Terri lost 4 pounds. That amount of weight loss in a week plus watching The Biggest Loser last night has really got me reved up for this next week. I think it's going to be more challenging then last week because we are going to Ohio for a flyball tournament friday through sunday. And what do we do at a flyball tournament? Eat lots of crap, and occasionally run a dog, and then go out to eat every night. That said, I do not have a goal to lose x number of pounds this week. My goal is to be the same weight next monday morning as I am on friday morning before we hit the road. I'm going armed with hard boiled eggs, chicken, veggies and fruit...let's see if I can fight off temptation.
After looking at other peoples great Biggest Loser Challenge spaces, I've decided to include my menu plan for the day each time I blog. I figure it's working for me, so it might work for someone else.
Breakfast: Egg white, turkey sausage, strawberries
Snack: Egg white, turkey sausage, 1/2 grapefruit
Lunch: Chicken, ratatouille, 1/2 baked potato
Snack: Chicken, other 1/2 of baked potato
Dinner: Scallops, cucumber salad and butternut squash
Dessert: Strawberries
~Alena 08 January The first 6 daysWell, it's Tuesday, and it's been almost a week since Terri and I started this new lifestyle.
I call it a new life style because we've both come to realize that even after we lose the weight, we can not go back to how we used to eat. It's no wonder we got to the weight we are. When I think about all the McDonalds steak bagels for breakfast, Taco Bell "value" meals for lunch, and pizza and ice cream at 8:30pm for dinner....it makes me sick. One a drive back from a movie (where we muched on chicken and sweet potatos instead of popcorn and twizzlers), Terri and I honestly talked about how we had been eating, how we felt, and our fears about the future if we continued on the road to obesity. I think that was my point of no return, no going back to life at fast food chains, no cartons of ice cream to make me feel better on a crappy day. It was also great to know that Terri has the same thoughts and goals. It means that I know we can support and push each other without one of us (me) seeming like a zealot.
Our new game plan has two phases. Phase one is the weight loss phase, phase two is for once we're skinny. Phase one includes 5 small meals a day, lots of protein and veggies, and no bread or dairy products (goodbye bagel with cream cheese). After 6 days of this meal plan I've learned several important things. Number 1: Making out a weekly meal plan makes shopping at the store a heck of a lot quicker. Number 2: Eating every 2-3 hours keeps me from binge eating or getting cranky. Number 3: I need to learn more creative ways to cook veggies. Quick! Number 4: It's working, so keep doing it. Number 5: Worry about phase two when you're done with phase one.
Now for the numbers:
Alena
Day 0: 183lbs
Day 6: 175.2lbs
Terri
Day 0: 188lbs
Day6: 185lbs 03 January The introductionWell, here we go. The first step in a long journey of weight loss.
I suppose I should begin with the customary introductions. Hi. My name is Alena. I'm 24, a student, and "mother" to 5 dogs. Terri is at work right now, so I'll do her intorductions for her. Terri is 27, a payroll specialist, and "mommy #2" to 5 dogs. Terri and I have been together for almost 6 years, and are having a comittment ceremony on October 12th 2008.
And that ceremony is our primary motivation for weight loss. Not to mention the fact that we are both in a friends wedding in May.
The weight gain has kind of crept up on us. When we met, I was 120 pounds, and Terri a muscular 145 pounds (we're both 5'6"). In the past 6 years Terri gone from being a bustling waitress to a sedentary office worker. I've gone from living at Grandma's house where we lived on homemade oatmeal, salads and chicken, to living on our own; where fast food and carryout became daily staples. I can tell you where every fast food restaurant is in a 25 miles bubble around my house, and I have pizza and chinesse on speed dial.
We lead a fairly busy lifestyle, and most of our weekends are reserved for our dogs. Two of our dogs compete in a sport called flyball. Flyball consists of teams of 4 dogs racing relay style over 4 jumps, triggering a box to release a tennis ball, catching the ball midair while doing a 180 degree turn off the box, and then returning over the 4 jumps. A good team can complete the relay in 16 seconds. Ricky, my standard poodle, has a personal best on 5.2 seconds. Jordan, my australian shepherd, has a personal best of 4.339 seconds. Needless to say, our dogs are fit! If only the same could be said about their moms.
So now the journey begins; to become fit flyball mom, good looking bridesmaids, and stunning brides.
The diet starts....right now... |
